Update on the New Baltimore Arena

Baltimore Sports and Life recently received a brief update on the status of the New Baltimore Arena.

Responding to my inquiry, Mr. Christopher Moyer - Director of Business Development, for the Baltimore Development Corporation stated:

"...The Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC), on behalf of the City, continues to work on this project on a regular basis. The New Baltimore Arena will be an important addition to the City, offering a world class amenity for Baltimore and the region for concerts, family shows, and sporting events. We are currently scheduling times for the development teams to come and present their ideas for the 18,500-seat arena which will be located at the site of the current arena at 200 W. Baltimore Street. These presentations will take place in the next two months. The BDC and Baltimore City are fully committed to developing the New Baltimore Arena and the project’s original scope and location."

The comments here were brief, but there was real information to be gleaned here. The project is moving forward, the projected size of the Arena has not changed, the location is not in question, and The B.D.C will be conducting interviews with the development teams in the next-two months.

I have followed-up with the B.D.C. but have not yet determined if the four (Barrett Sports, Research Associates, Smith Sports, and Stafford Sports) Financial Consultant Teams been interviewed.

Once the presentations with the four (Struever Bros, ESmith Legacy, Arena Development, Cormony Development) Development Teams is completed during the next two-months; my hope is that the B.D.C. can select the winning bid in a reasonable expectation of time.
